wellington apothecary PRODUCT CARE
herbal teas & tonics
Dried herbs are best stored in an airtight container away from light and moisture. Our herbal teas generally have a year before they expire and this is because they tend to lose potency over time not necessarily because they 'go off'. Herbal tonics are best stored in a dark cupboard away from light and moisture, with the lid left on tight. You will generally find that your tonic has a year before expiry.
Wellington Apothecary skincare products are made with the finest and freshest plant extracts we can source and are manufactured and dispensed by us at our Wellington factory, dispensary, clinic and shop. You may see a symbol on your label of a jar with 3M or 6M inside. This is not strictly an expiry date. It is the length of time within which we recommend you use your product to ensure the integrity of the ingredients are at their most potent and safe. Your products may still be ok to use after this time if stored correctly.
Think of your skincare as food, A cream without preservatives would only be safe to use if kept refrigerated for around one week. Our creams contain a small amount of preservatives for this reason. Always store your skincare products in a dark, cool place away from moisture and ensure the lids are on securely. Creams & serums may be refrigerated for longer life.
We recommend washing and drying your hands thoroughly before applying products in jars and consider using a clean spoon or spatula to dispense them into your hand.
Balms and oils are less prone to contamination as creams and serums and therefore do not need much in the way of preservatives. If stored incorrectly, for example kept in the bathroom or left in direct sunlight, the ingredients in your balm or oil will be at risk of deterioration. You will know if your balm or oil is no longer good by the smell.
If you notice any changes in your skincare products or have any questions please feel free to contact our Herbalists for guidance at any time.
