Join Shanali at Wellington Apothecary for an interactive introduction to Ayurveda, explored through herbs, scent and tea.

Ayurveda is an alternative medicine system that originated in India over five thousand years ago and Sri Lanka developed its own Ayurvedic system based on the knowledge passed down from generation to generation. Ayurveda defines health as the balanced state of energies in the body, mind and soul- Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. A proactive diet, lifestyle and ancient herbs, oils and tonics will help to manage, and in many cases alleviate imbalanced state of Dosha of the human body.

In this small-group workshop, you’ll be introduced to some of its foundational principles and explore how the doshas may show up in everyday life. Find your predominant dosha before getting to know a selection of Ayurvedic herbs through scent and taste. You’ll then create your own dosha-inspired herbal tea blend to take home.

During the workshop you’ll...
Learn the basic principles of Ayurveda and the three doshas
Explore your predominant dosha
Consider how Vata, Pitta and Kapha can present in everyday life
Smell and explore traditional Ayurvedic herbs and spices
Blend a personalised herbal tea to take home
No previous knowledge of Ayurveda is needed.

About Shanali

Shanali's approach to natural medicine is shaped by both lived experience and formal training. Growing up with herbal remedies and traditional healing practices as part of everyday family life, she developed an early respect for the role plants can play in supporting health and wellbeing. After moving to Aotearoa, this foundation grew into a deeper exploration of Eastern and Western herbal medicine and Rongoā Māori, with a particular interest in how different traditions can sit alongside one another in a thoughtful and practical way. Her own experiences of stress, sleeplessness and burnout have also shaped her practice, bringing empathy alongside clinical understanding. With a background in teaching, she places an emphasis on education and empowerment, helping people better understand their health and make sustainable changes that support long-term wellbeing. Her philosophy is simple: health is individual, and care should reflect each person’s story, circumstances and goals.
